Every year, International Women’s Day serves as a reminder of how far we have come—and how far we still have to go in the fight for gender equality and women’s empowerment. As I reflect on the significance of this day, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions. Women around the world have fought tirelessly for equal rights, career opportunities, reproductive freedom, and financial independence. The right to vote, to work, to have bodily autonomy, to open a bank account without a husband’s permission—these were once radical ideas. And yet, here in the U.S., we find ourselves facing many of the same battles our grandmothers and great-grandmothers fought 50 years ago. It’s disheartening to see rights once thought secured now up for debate again.
But then, a simple message shifted my perspective.
A friend and colleague reached out to tell me that I had inspired her. She shared how our conversations had helped her navigate her career, how my words had given her clarity when she needed it most. Reading her note, I realized something profound: change doesn’t just happen in courtrooms, in voting booths, or in legislative halls. It happens in the everyday moments—through mentorship, advocacy, and the spaces we create for one another.
That message was a reminder of why I became part of Ava’s Pathways. I may not have millions to donate to causes that fight for women’s rights, but I do have a voice. And that voice can make a difference. Advocating for women, mentoring those stepping into leadership, and amplifying voices that go unheard—these are the ways we create lasting impact. Showing up, speaking out, and lifting up other women are not just acts of solidarity; they are essential to progress.
Creating real change doesn’t always require grand gestures. It can be as simple as supporting a friend through a tough career decision, mentoring a young woman finding her way, advocating for policies that protect women’s health and economic independence, or simply reminding another woman of her worth.
At Ava’s Pathways, we believe in the power of community. We know that when one woman thrives, we all thrive. The act of supporting each other builds pathways for growth, healing, and leadership.
So, on this International Women’s Day, let’s remember that the fight for equity and inclusion is not just a conversation about the past—it’s a call to action for today. And it’s not just about the biggest voices or the largest platforms. It’s about each of us choosing to show up, to support, to advocate, and to build a future where all women can thrive.
Ava, our spokes-bird and symbol of transformation, would be proud of the impact we are making—one voice, one action, and one woman at a time.
